Neat Ideas:

Do you have other quilters in your family?  If you do, a fun project is to pick a theme, have each quilter make enough blocks for each participating quilter and then swap them.   Our family has done this for a Christmas quilt, a heart quilt, a fall quilt and our latest, a patriotic quilt.  Each time, a family member has taken responsibility for corresponding, finding out how many want to participate, sending out specifics (size of blocks, suggested colors, etc.),  collecting the finished blocks and finally distributing them.  If you’d like more detailed  information, just contact us and we’ll tell you more!!

Trying to make a quilt to match the existing décor of a room?  I once took my paint color chip, selected several more paint colors to  complement, or contrast with it, then took my “paint palette” with me to the quilt shops to find my fabrics.  This worked well and I loved the finished product!

ABOUT US

Lavendersquares is truly a family affair. The initial quilt offerings come from myself, Kathy Phillips, and my sister-in-law, Kathy Harvey. Joining us is my daughter-in-law, Jessi Phillips, who makes the darling "taggies". My husband, Greg, is our website designer and you´ll notice a link to his website, the georgiacarver.com. Not to be left out, our daughter, Chloe Phillips, is our photographer.

Kathy Harvey -- I've been sewing all my life but only started quilting 15 years ago at the urging of my mother.  She encouraged me to take a log cabin Quilt in a Day class, and ever since I've been hooked!  I eventually reached a point in my quilting life that I had so many tops made, but not quilted, that I bought a Gammill Longarm Quilting Machine and I now do it all.... piecing and machine quilting.  My quilting hobby has turned into an obsession, just ask my husband!  All of my quilts are pieced and quilted in my home studio (smoke-free), all of my bindings are finished by hand.  The vast majority of my baby/kid quilts are in flannel (tops and backs) but occasionally I'll make one with regular cotton.  I hope you enjoy viewing my quilts!

Kathy Phillips -- I got started quilting when my sisters-in-law and mother-in-law decided we should each make a wallhanging—together, of course!—during a Christmas visit to Missouri.  What fun we had!  I’ve been having fun and learning ever since!   My quilts are machine-pieced in my home (smoke-free) and finished on my Pfaff Grand Hobby Quilter sewing machine.
